Membership

Marchwood Yacht Club was founded in 1963 to enable sailing people living in the immediate area to enjoy their sport. Since then the club has developed considerably and now own approximately 3 acres of land, with water frontage where we have slipways and a starting hut. We have our own clubhouse featuring a bar, galley and dining room which is open on a regular basis.

Membership is available to all interested in boating whether their involvement is a simple canoe or an ocean going yacht. To enable the members to carry out work on their boats we have our own up to date boat hoist with excellent shore side facilities. We consider the facilities available to members are second to none on the south coast of England.

As part of the club ethos, and as a condition of membership all members are expected to play their part in the running of the club. With a club motto "if it needs doing, do it" it is anticipated that members will take some responsibility through personal service that sustain the club's self help objectives. This can be achieved either by helping with the organisation of the club or undertaking specific tasks on a voluntary basis.

Clubhouse
The clubroom can accommodate 200 people and is equipped with its own bar featuring an extensive range of alcoholic and soft drinks. The clubroom is open on Tuesday evening, Friday evening, Saturday lunchtime and evening, Sunday lunchtime and Bank Holiday lunchtimes. Additionally on Wednesday evenings during the summer racing season.

The fully equipped galley provides meals and light snacks in the Trafalgar Dining Room, Clubroom and Bar.

A full programme of social activities are arranged, including winter lectures which cover a wide range of topics together with RYA training courses: VHF, Navigation, First Aid, etc... when demand permits.

Moorings
Safe and secure Club moorings are available for lease for boats up to 40 feet in length in two locations close to the club. Most of the moorings are in deep water, although some are more suitable for bilge keel yachts able to dry out at low water springs. The club maintains and services the moorings each year.

Pontoon
A pontoon system featuring deep water alongside berths is available for members for coming alongside and short-term berthing. Water is available on the pontoon for filling tanks.

Boat Park
A Boat Park is available to members for winter storage and for annual maintenance projects, with a capacity of 180 mono hull boats. To assist with the transportation of boats ashore the club has its own mechanised 14 tonne boat lift.

A separate area storage is available for dinghies and tenders. Once the winter storage period is over, there is space available in the Boat Park for dry sailing boats and secure car parking

Sailing
The club regularly arranges rallies in and around the Solent and to destinations further afield. A series of friendly club races are held on Wednesday evenings (April-August) and at weekends during the season.

In the summer on Tuesday evenings the club makes available dinghies for the use of young people and provides sailing tuition, Cadets. This is part of the clubs outreach into the local community.

Slipway
The club has its own private slipway for the launching and recovery of member's boats and dinghies. For mid season scrubs it is possible to dry out on the slip or alternatively, the boat hoist can be used.
