Commodore's Update - August 5 and Summer Workparty

Published 09:50 on 5 Aug 2020

Hello all

The club has now got back to some kind of normality now that the bar has reopened, well done to Mike Hawkins and his team for all the hard work they have put in to make our bar and club house as safe as is possible.

Measures are being added to stop the public being able to wander onto the foreshore through open gates, please ensure that you keep the gates to the foreshore and pontoons locked at all times as we still seem to be getting a few unwanted guests.

Wednesday evening racing is progressing well, but we could always use a few more competitors. Mid Summer Madness seemed to go well but Covid 19 is taking its toll on the amount of members attending. 18 boats have booked to go to the Island Harbor rally, looks like the weather will be on our side with perfect bbq skies.

The general committee have,as you know, been meeting on a weekly basis since lockdown started. Our next meeting is on the 24th of August and thereafter every two weeks until we feel we can return to monthly meetings. If needed,we can easily resort to weekly meetings again. My weekly updates have proven to be useful to keep the membership updated on the clubs progress as we travelled through the lockdown period, however, the updates have come to an end now and I will put a monthly report in Pennant.

A very big thank you goes out to everyone who has made our transition through the Covid 19 period as smooth as it could possibly be, but remember, the virus is still out there.

Keep safe

Regards Simon

Fancy A Summer Work Party?

Well, it could be a more attractive option than November and would count towards your personal service for this year, especially if you were one of the folks whose work party was cancelled in the spring.

We are looking for 3 members on each of 2 days to help with a spring job that we weren't

able to do because of lockdown.

Day: Tuesday and Wednesday
Date: 11th August and 12th August
Time: 10:00-15:00
Job: Apply decking cleaner to a section of pontoon and then jetwash it off

Important: helpers should bring lifejackets to wear for this job, please, because the pontoons are quite slippery when damp.

Corona Virus Precautions

Weekdays have been chosen for this job because there are usually fewer members at the club. Everyone will be working outside and separately from each other. We have disposable gloves, dust masks and alcohol wipes for equipment although you are welcome to bring your own gloves/masks if you wish. You will need to bring your own refreshments and lunch because we are not able to provide coffee and doughnuts at the moment.

If You Can Help.

Please email me via workparty@marchwoodyc.org.uk and say which day/date you can offer, so that we can organise it all as safely as possible.

Thank you
